The best newborn gifts are the ones that make the first months a little easier. These are the things parents tell us they reach for every day.

Muslin wraps

You can’t really have too many. They work for wrapping, feeding, burping, pram shade and as a light cover on warm days, and they get softer with every wash.

Sleepsuits, one size up

Zip or snap sleepsuits in 000 or 00 (0–3 or 3–6 months) get worn day and night. A two-way zip makes night changes much easier for tired parents.

Bath time basics

A hooded towel and a few soft washcloths are small luxuries that get used every single day.

What to skip

Cot bumpers, pillows, thick quilts and padded sleep positioners aren’t recommended for safe sleep, so leave them off the list. Blankets are best kept for the pram or play mat. And check age labels on toys: small parts aren’t suitable for babies.

Make it personal

A few words in your own handwriting (or ours) mean more than any wrapping. Tick “It’s a gift” in your bag to add a free note, or choose one of our ready-made gift boxes.
